Last week Missouri Western State University and Heart to Heart International were planned to have a vaccination clinic on February 17. Due to weather the university has rescheduled the planned adult and pediatric COVID-19 vaccination clinics on campus.

Missouri Western and Heart to Heart International has now rescheduled the COVID-19 vaccination clinics for February 24 and March 24 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., in Remington Hall, room 105.

According to the website three vaccines will be offered and available at the clinic depending on age, as well as the COVID-19 booster shot.

“These vaccines will be offered for the following ages: Pfizer (5+), Moderna (18+), and Johnson & Johnson (18+).” The site states. “Our team is also able to deliver boosters to eligible individuals (12+).”

The vaccines being offered are free and open to the public as well as members of the campus community. The university welcomes walk-ins or you can pre register at griff.vn/Vax22, for specific time slots throughout the day.

Missouri Western and Heart to Heart hosted vaccination events on campus last September and October where almost 150 individuals participated and could receive free Max the Vax t-shirts for participating.

Junior and lacrosse player Claire Corretti explained her relief after getting vaccinated.

“I recently got my booster shot right when I returned from winter break. It makes my life easier, especially being in season for lacrosse.” Corretti said. “I feel better now that I don’t have to quarantine or miss anything since I am fully vaccinated.”

The university has been trying to provide incentives for students and employees to get vaccinated with their Max the Vax COVID-19 Incentive Program. In the past the incentive was a cash prize to a randomly selected person that received vaccination. Student Alicia Castaneda and staff member David Kratz Mathies each won the grand prize last October receiving $5,000 from the university.

Junior nursing student Hallie Clark shared why she believes it’s important for students to be vaccinated.

“I actually do think it’s important for students to be vaccinated for the sake of grandparents and geriatrics who could be affected by the virus.” Clark said. “On the other hand I think it’s completely the individual’s choice. I think it’s more important for those in healthcare for the safety of others.”
